Frequently asked questions

For blocks and checkout branding, yes. Shopify only lets Plus stores add apps to the checkout page. Most functions, including discounts, payment and shipping method changes, and the checkout and address blockers, work on every Shopify plan. See how it works.

Can I try blocks before going live on Plus?

Yes. The app treats development stores and Shopify Plus sandbox stores as Plus stores, so blocks are available there.

What’s the difference between a block and a function?

A block is something customers see at checkout, placed with the Checkout Editor. A function changes checkout logic, such as discounts or which payment methods appear, and works as soon as you save it. See how it works.

I created a block. Why isn’t it in checkout?

Blocks have to be added in Shopify’s Checkout Editor as well. See add your first block, then block isn’t showing.

The number in the ID column on Customizations. You enter it in the app block’s Fixed block ID setting in the Checkout Editor, so that app block shows that block.

An app block without a Fixed block ID picks one of your blocks at random. Enter the block’s ID in Fixed block ID. See which block shows.

On the Business plan, as many as you like. Add several app blocks, or list several IDs in Multiple block IDs to show them together in one app block. The Business plan has no block limit beyond a storage cap. If you reach it, the app shows a Blocks storage limit reached warning. The Free plan includes one customization in total.

Yes. Place it in a section that belongs to one checkout step, such as the delivery address or payment methods, rather than the order summary, which appears on every step. See where to place blocks.

Do blocks work with Shop Pay and other express checkouts?

Customers who use an express checkout button, such as Shop Pay, PayPal, or Google Pay, may skip the checkout pages where your blocks are placed. Blocks that rely on the customer seeing them, like upsells or required fields, don’t apply to those orders. Functions always apply.

Can I stop customers checking out until they fill in a field?

Yes. Make the field required and turn on Allow app to block checkout for its app block in the Checkout Editor. See required checkbox.

Can blocks show on the thank you and order status pages?

Yes, for Banner, Text, Trust badges, Image, Contact info, FAQ, and Line item text. See thank you and order status pages.

Can I show a block to logged-in customers or specific customers only?

Yes, with the Customer account exists rule, or rules on customer and company metafields. Blocks can’t read customer tags; functions can. See display rules.

Only if both discounts allow combining. Set Combines with … on the Checkout Buddy discount, and the matching setting on the other discount.

How do I hide products that are already in the cart from a cross sell?

Tick Hide product if already in cart on the block. See cross sell cart behavior.

Tracking data Checkout Buddy uses for analytics and discounts. It’s hidden from customers. See data and privacy.

They’re saved on the order under Additional details, labeled with the block’s Name. You can also save them as order metafields, use them in email templates, and use them in Shopify Flow. See how form fields work.
