Remove discount code

Remove discount code takes codes off the checkout, with nothing shown on the page. Use it to stop codes being used in combination with certain products, customers, or other offers.

Requires: Shopify Plus and the Business plan.

Settings

Discount code to remove automatically: What to remove.

  • Enter * to remove every discount code.
  • Enter one code, or several separated by commas: WELCOME10, SPRING.
  • A code is removed when it contains what you entered, so SPRING also removes SPRING20 and SPRING-VIP. Matching is case-sensitive.

Examples

  • Remove all codes when the cart contains a product tagged no-discount (rule: Line item tags includes no-discount).
  • Remove WELCOME10 for customers who already have an account (rule: Customer account exists).
  • Remove codes when a free gift from a cross sell is in the cart.

Things to know

Section titled “Things to know”
  • The block runs whenever the applied codes change, so a customer who re-enters a removed code sees it removed again while the rules pass.
  • Place it on the first step of checkout, with its ID in Fixed block ID.
  • Customers aren’t told why a code was removed. Consider a Banner with the same display rules to explain.
  • For a hard rule that can’t be bypassed, set up the discount itself so it doesn’t apply, for example with Shopify’s discount conditions or the combination settings of a discount function.
